Reporting to the Human Resources Management team with split oversite and guidance from the Risk Management department, the HR and Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting a variety of Human Resource and Safety functions in partnership with onsite management. This position supports onsite operations leadership and other stakeholders in a large hospital facility in a variety of areas including, but not limited to employee relations, safety concerns, workers compensation, and injury response. Additionally, this position facilitates and communicates organizational policies and programs and ensures labor law and regulatory compliance.

The Role

Reporting to the Human Resources Management team with split oversite and guidance from the Risk Management department, the HR and Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting a variety of Human Resource and Safety functions in partnership with onsite management. This position supports onsite operations leadership and other stakeholders in a large hospital facility in a variety of areas including, but not limited to employee relations, safety concerns, workers compensation, and injury response. Additionally, this position facilitates and communicates organizational policies and programs and ensures labor law and regulatory compliance.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Human Resources functions include but are not limited to

  • Partners with senior leadership/management to interpret, define, communicate, and implement various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations.
  • Provides Human Resources guidance and act as point of contact with employees (coaching, counseling, performance improvement, disciplinary actions, benefits and policy questions) to onsite leadership.
  • Identify safety-related issues using trends and employee feedback, recommending targeted initiatives that improve safety compliance, reduce incidents, and promote a safe and productive work environment.
  • Investigates, and resolves conflict resolution issues, ethics complaints and other employee relations issues, in collaboration with the HR Business Partner.

Safety functions include but are not limited to

  • Conduct scheduled safety audits, risk assessments, inspections, and meetings to determine the effectiveness of accident prevention activities, and to ensure branch and job site compliance with all applicable safety directives.
  • Continuously conduct behavior-based safety observations and train other employees and managers to ensure that safety and operations integrity is demonstrated every day.
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of existing training programs and materials and provide recommendations to improve quality and execution.
  • Responsible for leading all site safety investigative reviews and developing cause maps to address the root cause of the incidents and ensuring that action plans are developed as needed and that timelines goals are accomplished.

What It Takes to be Successful

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish fluency (read/write/verbal) required
  • 3+ years' experience in a HR Generalist role or equivalent including employee relations, compliance and conflict resolution
  • Proven knowledge in California state laws/regulation
  • Experience in Safety compliance including safety audits, risk assessment/inspections and preventions
  • Experience in large/complex facility operations environment with 75+ employees
  • Requires successful background clearance including Live Scan and medical screenings

Environment

Environment may also include manufacturing, laboratories, offices, cleanrooms, offices and production areas, interacting with employees and clients throughout the job site. May require long periods of walking, standing, sitting, climbing, bending, reaching, stretching, leaning, stooping, and crawling, ability to lift up to 40 pounds, may require occasional travel to company job sites, the corporate office, Carson Warehouse or other locations for meetings or projects.

Pay Range and Compensation Package

A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range for this position is $70,000 – 80,000. Actual compensation offered may vary depending on skill level, experience, and/or education. You will also be eligible for annual cash bonuses based upon performance and other factors.
